In 2009 I ventured out of my comfort box and formed Digital Paralegal Services, LLC®. I began offering my services to attorneys across the country on a virtual basis from my home in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Has it been hard? Yes. Has it been worth it? Absolutely. Progress was slow. Some lessons were hard, but the benefits have been amazing. I think the most important benefit to me has been having more personal choices while still meeting some long-term financial needs.

Some things are sometimes more important than work on any given day.  Family is very important to me, and I consider my calling as a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister to be top priorities.  Keeping relationships as top priorities requires time.  Making that time sometimes means difficult choices of conflicting demands.  Chronic illnesses, surgeries, and unexpected deaths in your family rarely check your work calendar to see if it is a convenient time.  I have been able to be present for the moments that matter most.

This year marks a major milestone for Digital Paralegal Services.  We are celebrating 8 full years in business, and we are growing every year.  I try to count my blessings and celebrate even the small victories every day.  The beginning of a new year often brings a time of reflection for our personal life, and it is good to extend that to your business life.

We have an exciting year planned as we launch a new division of the company.  From the beginning of business, paralegals throughout the country have reached out to me seeking their own freedom from traditional career boundaries.  I have talked with so many paralegals who want – and need – to make a change.  They need answers, encouragement, wisdom.  But mostly, THEY NEED ATTORNEYS WILLING TO PAY FOR THEIR SERVICES!

A new vision began to take root, grow, and change.  Finally, this year we launch…

The mission of e-Paralegals® is to educate, encourage, strengthen, and promote opportunities for paralegals to work from remote locations in the United States.  Uniting remote paralegals with the attorneys who need their services.

As we look at how my virtual paralegal business developed and examine the experiences of other virtual paralegals, together we can pave new paralegal career paths for the future.

Special thanks to all the paralegals who supported me in the beginning and the attorneys who made it all possible!

Cathy
